Born in the vibrant town of Cienfuegos, Cuba, Maria Sust has always been infused with the spirit of her rich cultural heritage. In the 1980s, Maria ventured to Allentown, Pennsylvania, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. It wasn’t long before she moved to Philadelphia, where she would establish her roots and her business, La Floreria Ochun.
Maria's entrepreneurial journey began in the basement of her home, where she started crafting floral arrangements that reflected both her artistic flair and spiritual beliefs. Her dedication and passion soon allowed her to expand, moving her blossoming business to a storefront on 5th Street, thus becoming a staple in the community.
As a mother of three—Pedro, Dalia, and Lidia—Maria has balanced her role as a business owner with her duties as a mother with grace and perseverance. One of her most heartfelt achievements was the arduous process of bringing her daughter, Lidia, home from Cuba, a testament to her determination and love.
La Floreria Ochun is more than just a flower shop; it is a reflection of Maria's spirit and dedication. She has made it a point to employ people of color, actively contributing to the community's growth and well-being. Through her business, Maria offers not only floral beauty but also a sense of belonging and support to the neighborhood.
Maria's life and work continue to be driven by a deep sense of community and cultural pride. At La Floreria Ochun, every arrangement is a piece of art, infused with the love and care only Maria can provide, inviting everyone to experience the warmth and beauty of her floral creations.
